COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team opened its season in action at tournaments in Coral Gables, Fla., and Waco, Texas. Competition at both events runs through Sunday.
At the Miami Fall Invite, junior Miho Kowase and Gabriella De Santis both posted Round of 16 wins in singles, with Kowase the No. 1 seed in the green draw and De Santis, ranked No. 117 nationally, in the orange bracket. Kowase dropped just one game in each set, while De Santis came away with a three-set victory. The duo fell in the quarterfinals of the orange doubles draw.
At Baylor’s Under Armour H-E-B Invite, a hidden dual tournament, Ohio State had four singles wins and one doubles victory. Freshman Andrea Ballinger posted a win in her first collegiate match, downing Kareh from Incarnate Word, 7-6 (1), 6-3. Other singles winners included sophomore Anna Sanford, junior Ferny Angeles Paz and redshirt senior Nicole Flower, with Sanford and Flower winning in straight sets. Angles Paz and sophomore Olivia Sneed picked up a win in doubles.
