Buckeyes Place Nine on Academic All-Big Ten List – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Nine member of the Ohio State softball team have been named the Spring Academic All-Big Ten list, the conference announced today. The Buckeyes’ honorees are Caitlin Conrad, Olivia O’Reilly, Erika Leonard, Maddy McIntyre, Kirstie Fehrenbach, Alex DiDomenico, Jayla Saibene, Anna Kirk and Shelby Hursh.
To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, student-athletes must be letterwinners who are in at least their second academic year at their institution and carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.
O’Reilly, who earned Academic All-Big Ten honors for the third time in her career, has also three times been a NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete. A biology major, she led the team in wins (14), innings pitched (144.0) appearances (36) and ERA (4.23) this year. In the career record books, finished ranked seventh in wins (40), seventh in strikeouts (274) and 10th in innings pitched (416.1).
Conrad finished her career this spring by earning All-Big Ten and All-Region honors on her way to hitting .399 with 54 RBI, 52 runs scored, 14 home runs and a .742 slugging percentage. In conference-only games, she slugged a Big Ten-best .944 and batted .437. Conrad is a community leadership major in the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences.
Leonard, a redshirt junior from Cincinnati, hit .414 this past spring with 60 RBI, 15 home runs and a .782 slugging percentage. In conference-only games, she drove in a Big Ten-record 37 runs in 23 games. Leonard is a sociology major.
McIntyre, a redshirt junior who graduated with her degree in marketing earlier this month, returned this season from an injury that cost her the majority of the 2014 campaign and more than made up for lost time, hitting .378 with a team-high 55 runs scored, 50 RBI and a .540 on-base percentage. A San Diego, Calif. native, she is enrolled in the sport management master’s degree program.
Fehrenbach, who like McIntyre graduated earlier this month, played in 43 games this year after coming back from a variety of injuries. She earned her degree in logistics management/marketing from the Max M. Fisher College of Business.
Saibene, from Massillon, Ohio, is a physical education major who hit a career-best .280 this year with 17 RBI and 10 runs scored.
DiDomenico, a pitcher from Youngstown, Ohio, is a human development and family science major within the College of Arts and Sciences. Hursh, also a pitcher, is an English major who led the team with four saves this year and had 92 strikeouts in 86 innings.
Kirk, who had a breakout year at the plate as a sophomore, hit .333 with 10 home runs, nine doubles, 40 RBI and 39 runs scored. She is an education-sport industry major in the College of Education and Human Ecology.
