No. 18 Ohio State Sets Program Record with 10th Straight Win at Iowa, 5-2 – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The No. 18 Ohio State women’s tennis team set a program record Friday afternoon in Iowa City, Iowa, as the Buckeyes defeated Iowa, 5-2, to earn their 10th straight win this spring. With the victory, the Buckeyes improve to 16-4 overall and remain undefeated in B1G play with an 8-0 mark in conference outings.
The Scarlet and Gray jumped out to a 1-0 lead with wins on courts one and three. Redshirt junior Nicole Flower and junior Grainne O’Neill teamed up to win the first doubles match for the Buckeyes at No. 3 with an 8-5 victory vs. Iowa’s Aimee Tarun and Anastasia Reimchen. The sophomore duo of Sandy Niehaus and Gabriella De Santis claimed the doubles point as they topped Morven McCullouch and Annette Dohanies, 8-6, on court one. Miho Kowase and Olivia Sneed led 7-5 on court two before play was suspended. The Buckeyes have earned the doubles in all of their conferences matches this spring.
In singles competition, the Buckeyes notched four straight-set wins to earn the road victory vs. the Hawkeyes. De Santis posted the first win for Ohio State as she defeated McCullouch, 6-2, 6-2, on court one. Niehaus extended her win streak to nine straight singles matches as she topped Reimchen, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 2. De Santis and Niehaus have each earned a team-high seven wins in conference singles play. Kowase secured the team victory with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph on court three vs. Dohanics.
The Buckeyes suffered two super tiebreaker heartbreakers as Sneed and Flower fell on courts four and six, respectively. After posting a 6-2 win in the first set on court four, Sneed dropped the second set tiebreaker before falling in the super tiebreaker, 11-9. Flower rallied back from a first-set defeat vs. Aimee Tarun to force a super tiebreaker with a 6-4 second-set victory, but could not hold the momentum against Tarun in the super tiebreaker as she fell, 10-6. After claiming the first set tiebreaker 7-5, O’Neill added the final point for the Buckeyes as she defeated Katie Zordani, 7-5, in the second frame at No. 5.
Up next, the Buckeyes will remain on the road to face Nebraska at 1 p.m. ET Sunday in Lincoln, Neb.
