COLUMBUS, Ohio – The 22nd-ranked Ohio State women’s tennis team (6-2, 0-0 B1G) opened competition at the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic Friday afternoon in Montgomery, Ala., with a 4-0 sweep vs. Tulane. With the win, the Buckeyes advance and will face No. 25 Texas Tech Saturday at 3 p.m. ET in semifinal action.
The Buckeyes registered their sixth win in doubles competition this spring to take a 1-0 advantage, followed by singles wins from freshman Anna Sanford and sophomores Sandy Niehaus and Miho Kowase to secure the sweep vs. Tulane.
In doubles play, the 25th-ranked duo of Gabriella De Santis and Niehaus defeated Naz Karagoz and Sade Atkinson, 6-2. The freshman tandem of Olivia Sneed and Sanford cruised to a 6-0 victory on court three.
Niehaus tallied her fourth-straight singles victory with a 6-1, 6-1 win vs. Vanessa Nommensen. Competing at the No. 1 position, Sanford downed Nicky Stracar, 6-4, 6-0. Kowase posted her seventh win of the spring as she defeated Jacqui Katz, 6-3, 6-2, on court five to capture Ohio State’s fourth shutout of the spring campaign. De Santis, Ferny Angeles Paz and Sneed did not complete their singles matches.
