No. 22 Ohio State Falls in Semifinal Action of Blue Gray National Tennis Classic to No. 25 Texas Tech, 4-1 – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The 22nd-ranked Ohio State women’s tennis team (6-3, 0-0 B1G) fell in semifinal action to No. 25 Texas Tech (8-2, 0-0 Big 12) Saturday in the 67th edition of the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic in Montgomery, Ala. The Buckeyes will compete for third place in the tournament vs. No. 49 DePaul at 10:30 a.m. ET Sunday.
The Buckeyes claimed the doubles point vs. Texas Tech. At No. 2, the sophomore tandem of Miho Kowase and Ferny Angeles Paz defeated Lynn Kiro and Sabrina Federici, 6-2. Freshmen Olivia Sneed and Anna Sanford captured a 6-4 victory on court three to give the Scarlet and Gray a 1-0 advantage against the Red Raiders. 25th-ranked Sandy Niehaus and Gabriella De Santis did not finish their match vs. Kenna Kilgo and Gabriela Talaba.
Moving on to singles competition, the Buckeyes dropped the first three matches off the court to trail 3-1. 125th-ranked Niehaus snapped a four-match winning streak with 6-3, 6-2, loss on court three to No. 63 Kiro. Angeles Paz dropped a 6-3, 6-3, decision on court four to to Talaba, while Kowase fell 6-4, 6-1 to Federici on court five. Despite winning the first set in a tiebreaker, Sanford fell in sets two and three to Kilgo, 6-7, 7-6, 6-2, lifting Texas Tech to the win.
