COLUMBUS, Ohio – Two first-half goals by Kent State gave the Golden Flashes an early lead and they never looked back in defeating Ohio State 3-1 on Tuesday afternoon at Murhpy-Mellis Field. The Buckeyes are now 9-8 on the season with just one regular season contest remaining – Oct. 31 at No. 11 Michigan.

On the offensive side for Ohio State, sophomore Morgan Kile continued her stellar play of late as she scored in the 68th minute. In the last two games, Kile has five points on two goals and one assist. On the season, she reached double digits in points with 10 (three goals, four assists), good for fourth in the team.

Kent State (8-8) got on the scoreboard just six and a half minutes into the contest when Eilidh Thomson converted on a shot from the left wing into the opposite corner of the cage. The goal was assisted by Alison Hermatz and was Thomson’s first goal of the season.

The Golden Flashes quickly added to the lead just nine minutes later as Shannon Talbot cleaned up a rebound off the pads of goalie Liz Tamburro to sneak her fourth goal on the season into the back of the cage. On the play, Tamburro initially saved a shot off the stick of Jessica Nesbitt.

Ten minutes into the second half, Kent State made the score 3-0 of a unassisted goal off a deflection from Krysti Lober. Ohio State goal by Kile came with 2:45 remaining in regulation.

Despite scoring just once, Ohio State was able to generate 19 shots, its third highest total of the season, and also had a season-high nine penalty corners. Maddy Humphrey took eight shots, four of which were on goal, while Emma Royce had five. Tamburro made four saves, giving her 116 on the year, matching her total from all of last season. Her 234 career saves are good for eighth place all-time, 41 shy of seventh place (Kim Willis, 1885-87).

Ohio State heads into its regular season finale at Michigan is a three-way tie for third place in the conference standings with Northwestern and Indiana.
