COLUMBUS, Ohio – A stingy Louisville defense held Ohio State to just four shots as the Cardinals made the only goal of the game stand up in a 1-0 defeat of the Buckeyes on Sunday. With the loss, Ohio State is now 7-5 on the year while the Cardinals are 8-5.

The games lone score game in the 10th minute of the first half when Lotta Kahlert tipped in a shot off a penalty corner. Neither team was able to generate much offense for the remainder of the period, although Louisville had eight shots and five first-half penalty corners.

Ohio State goalie Liz Tamburro kept the Cardinals at bay with three first-half saves and six total in the game. She continues to lead the Big Ten is saves and now has 77 on the year to go with a .770 save percentage.

The Buckeyes scored what appeared to be the game tying goal approximately midway through the second half on an unassisted tally from Peanut Johnson, but she was ruled to be outside of the circle. Ohio State managed just one shot in the second half while Louisville had four. Both squads were strong in the midfield, snuffing out most offensive chances. In 13 games this year, the Cardinals defense has given up just 17 goals.

Louisville’s Ayeisha McFerran made three saves, all in the first half, and Louisville ended with a 8-1 edge in penalty corners. Ohio State’s shots came from Brooke Hiltz, Casey Cole, Maddy Humphrey and Hanna Scherpbier.

The Buckeyes return to action next Friday, Oct. 16, when they welcome Big Ten foe Indiana to Columbus. Ohio State is currently 3-1 in the Big Ten and stands in third place, while Indiana is 2-2 in the league and 6-7 overall. The contest will also serve as the Buckeyes’ Pink Game to raise awareness for breast cancer research.
