Watkins Named College Sports Madness Big Ten Player of the Week – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Junior Taylor Watkins has been named the College Sports Madness Big Ten Player of the Week, the website announced today.
Watkins hit .467 last week as the Buckeyes swept a doubleheader from Penn State and a three-game series against Northwestern. In the two games against the Nittany Lions, Watkins was 4-for-6 with a solo home run and three runs scored. She also made a key defensive play in the third inning to throw out Sam Shannon at the plate and preserve a 2-0 Buckeye lead.
In Ohio State’s series against Northwestern, Watkins had two home runs and three RBI. For the week, she registered a 1.200 slugging percentage, scored seven runs, had four RBI, two doubles, three home runs and also stole a base. Watkins also moved up in the school record books in both career hits (18th, 175) and RBI (14th, 87). Additionally, her career batting average of .347 is the eighth-best in school history.
For the season, Watkins is batting .363 with a team-high 37 runs scored, 29 RBI, seven home runs and six stolen bases. In 20 Big Ten games, she checks in with a .422 average (fourth highest in the conference), 11 RBI, 15 runs scored, a .688 slugging percentage and .456 on base percentage.
Ohio State will take its season-best five-game winning streak to Iowa City, Iowa, this weekend for a three-game series with the Hawkeyes.
