COLUMBUS, Ohio – Freshman goalie Liz Tamburro made 15 saves, the third most in single-game school history, but the Ohio State field hockey team (3-7, 0-3 Big Ten) dropped a 6-0 decision to second-ranked Maryland (8-2, 3-1) on Friday afternoon in College Park, Md.

Tamburro now has the third and fourth (14 vs. Albany) highest marks in school history. She came into the game leading the Big Ten in saves per game. Lindsay Williams holds the record for single-game saves with 18 versus Louisville (September 28, 2004).

The Buckeyes and Terrapins played a closely contest game for the first 25 minutes on the first half, but Maryland struck for four goals in a eight minute span to pull away. Anna Dessoye started the rally with her fourth goal of the season coming off a rebound on a penalty corner. Three minutes later, Katie Gerzabek made the score 2-0 on a diving goal off a pass from Moira Putsch. The Terps then scored two more time in a one minute span off goal from Putsch and Lein Holsboer to take a 4-0 lead at halftime.

Less than two minutes into the second half, Maryland upped its lead to 5-0 on Gerzabek’s second goal of the game and the final margin was provided by Emma Rissinger’s tally at the 51:32 mark.

For the game, Maryland outshot Ohio State 23-7 and held a 7-4 advantage in penalty corners. The Terrapins’ goalie combination of Brooke Cabrera and Jill Genovese combined to make six saves. Emma Royce had a team-high three shots.

Ohio State continues it roadtrip on Sunday when it travels to Charlottsville, Va., to face third-ranked Virginia. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
