Buckeyes Complete Season Opener at Shamrock Invitational – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s track and field team opened its 2013 outdoor season this past Thursday-Saturday at the Shamrock Invitational in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
The weekend was highlighted by a pair of wins in the 4x100m and 4x800m relays and impressive performances by Ohio State’s short- and long-distance hurdlers.
Here’s a recap of the Buckeyes’ trip to South Carolina:
100m
Fourth place went to senior Ashlee Abraham in a time of 11.72. Indiana Tech’s Adella King took first place in 11.36.
100m Hurdles
Sophomore Alexandria Johnson raced to a first-place time of 13.60, while freshman Alexis Franklin placed third in 13.79.
400m Hurdles
Franklin dominated the field in the 400 hurdles, finishing her lap in a time of 59.28, the second-fastest time in the nation so far this season. Runner-up honors went to Kirsten Haas of North Dakota (1:02.58).
800m
Ohio State placed two athletes in Top 6. Sophomore Katie Betts was the bronze medalist in a time of 2:14.12, while freshman Rebecca Rings was sixth in 2:16.19. Vassar’s Kelly Holmes was the winner in a time of 2:13.25.
1500m
Sophomore Michelle Thomas turned in a sixth-place and personal-best time of 4:41.05. Kerri Gallagher of Pacers Running Club was first in 4:31.25.
3000m
Freshman Sakiko Minagawa was the runner-up in 10:06.79, with junior Keelin Gorman finishing close behind in a third-place time of 10:11.68. First place went to Louisville’s Michelle Molodynia in 10:06.58.
5000m
Thomas completed her race in a runner-up time of 16:58.05. Purdue’s Kelly McCurdy used a meet-record time of 16:39.89 to capture the win.
10000m
A time of 37:24.42 helped Mallory Kreider to a second-place finish. Brenae Edwards of Mansfield won the event in a meet-record time of 34:51.66.
Pole Vault `B’
Freshman Emily Schwartz was a winner at 3.50m (11-5.75)
High Jump
Sophomore Jordan Moxley turned in a third-place finish, clearing the bar at 1.65m (5-5.00). Army’s McKenzie Majchrzak took first.
Discus
Sophomore Carly Pendleton finished third at 43.90m (144 -0.00). Liberty’s Jocelyn Williams was the first-place finisher with a mark of 47.08m (154-5.00).
Hammer
Pendleton placed fifth in the hammer throw at 48.09m (157-9.25). Coastal Carolina’s Anjulia Nicholson turned in a first-place throw of 49.42m (162-2.00).
4x100m Relay
Ohio State `A’ – Abraham, Aisha Cavin, Christienne Linton and Adenike Pedro – took the title in a time of 45.40. Coastal Carolina finished second in 46.06.
4x800m Relay
Betts, Rings, SoSo Walker and Janel Olberding placed first overall in a school-record time of 8:56.55.

Ohio State returns to action next Friday and Saturday, March 22-23 at the UCF Invitational in Orlando, Fla.
