Buckeyes Notch Pair of Doubles Wins at Thunderbird Invitational – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team completed day two of the Arizona State Thunderbird Invitational Saturday. The Buckeyes collected a pair of doubles victories, but couldn’t find their rhythm in singles action. The Thunderbird concludes Sunday.

Ohio State started the morning strong in Tempe, Ariz. The OSU tandem of Fidan Manashirova and Gabby Steele downed Northern Arizona’s Hannah Stone and Nicole Perez, 8-4, while Kelsey Becker joined with Kansas State’s Karla Bonacic to defeat Stephany Chang and Catalina Visico of California, 8-1. San Diego’s Juliette Coupez and Laura Claus upended Kelsey Haviland and Kara Cecil, 8-4.
In consolation quarterfinals, Manashirova and Haviland fell to a pair of Michigan opponents, while Cal’s Cecilia Estlander downed Cecil, 6-1, 6-2. Manashirova battled to a third set against Kristin Dodge of Michigan, but ultimately fell 6-4, 6-7 (2), 6-1. Michigan’s Michelle Sulahian ended Haviland’s consolation run with a 7-5, 7-6 (3) victory.
In second-round consolation action, Utah’s Anastasia Putilina took her match against Steele, 6-3, 6-2. Becker dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision to Northern Arizona’s Hannah Stone in auxiliary matches.
