Softball: Buckeyes Seeded Eighth in Upcoming Big Ten Tournament – Ohio State Buckeyes

Northwestern will host conference tournament beginning Thursday
COLUMBUS, Ohio Making its seventh Big Ten tournament appearance this decade, the Ohio State softball team will travel to Evanston, Ill., as the No. 8 seed and face host and No. 1 seed Northwestern in a quarterfinal game at 4:30 p.m. CT Thursday.
The Big Ten released the conference tournament bracket Sunday evening and announced that Northwestern will serve as host of the tournament. Northwestern and Michigan tied for the league’s regular-season crown with identical 18-2 league records and a series of tie-breakers came down to a coin flip to determine the tournament host.
Ohio State enters the 2008 Big Ten Tournament with a 33-22 overall record and went 7-13 in the league. The Buckeyes were swept in a doubleheader by Northwestern in Columbus April 6 but went 2-1 against the Wildcats in both 2006 and 2007.
The Buckeyes won the Big Ten last season, then hosted and won the conference tournament, beating sixth-ranked Northwestern, 2-1, in walk-off fashion in the championship game.
The winner of the Ohio State-Northwestern game Thursday will play in a semifinal game at 4:30 p.m. CT Friday against either No. 4 seed Minnesota or No. 5 seed Purdue.
Friday, the Big Ten Network will televise the final two quarterfinal games in the morning, followed by the two semifinal games in the afternoon. The championship game will also be televised by the Network at noon CT Saturday. Fans can listen to Ohio State’s quarterfinal game online at www.OhioStateSports.net.
