– Ohio State trailed 5-0 Friday night against Purdue but came back to win 7-5. Last season, the Buckeyes trailed Illinois 5-0 in Columbus and Wisconsin 5-0 in Madison, but came back to win both games.
– Of Ohio State’s nine Big Ten wins this season, four have been come-from-behind victories. The five runs overcome Friday are the most this season by the Buckeyes, topping their previous largest deficit erased of two runs twice.
– Ohio State has now won 14 of its last 17 games.
– Of the Buckeyes’ 11 Big Ten games so far this season, they were tied or trailed late in nine of them.
– Ohio State is now 21-1 this season when leading after the sixth inning. The Buckeyes out-hit Purdue, 9-7, giving them a 21-4 record this season when they out-hit their opponent.
– Buckeyes at the plate: Freshman Sam Marder went 2-for-4 Friday, giving her two hits in six of her last seven games. In Marder’s last 12 games, she is batting .450 (18-for-40).
– For the fourth time in her career, senior Megan Schwab hit two doubles in a game. She now has a team-high 11 this season and 47 career doubles, giving her sole possession of second place on the Ohio State career doubles list. Schwab had been tied with Stacy Roth (45 doubles from 1999-2002). Krinon Clark owns the OSU doubles record with 58 from 1991-94 … Schwab is now batting .454 (5-for-11) in her career against Purdue’s Brooke Baker.
– Junior Brittany Vanderink went 2-for-4 Friday with her first triple of the season (seventh career). In four career games against Purdue’s Brooke Baker, Vanderink it batting a team-best .667 (4-for-6).
– Buckeyes in the circle: Senior Jamee Juarez struck out seven batters Friday, bringing her 23 shy of the Ohio State all-time strikeout record, held by Katie Chain (692, 2000-03). Last week, Juarez took the all-time wins and innings pitched records from Chain.
– Weather: Cloudy, drizzle and 52 degrees at first pitch. Wind 0-15 MPH right to left, slightly out to right. No rain during game.
– Ohio State is now 14-9 all-time against Purdue, including 8-6 against the Boilermakers at Buckeye Field.
– Purdue has four starters and 11 letterwinners back from its 2006 team that went 30-30 overall and 7-12 in the Big Ten.
