– Ohio State has scored in the first inning in five consecutive games. In the first inning this season, the Buckeyes have outscored their opponents 39-15.
– The Buckeyes are now 21-5 when they score first. Ohio State is also 14-4 when scoring in the first inning.
– Buckeyes at the plate: Freshman Sam Marder’s first inning single extended her career-high hitting streak to 10 games. During that time Marder, who went 2-for-3 Sunday in game one, is batting .485 (16-33).
– Senior Megan Schwab’s first inning double was her team-leading ninth of the season and 45th of her career, which ties her for third all-time at Ohio State with Stacy Roth (1999-2002).
– Senior Christina Douglas saw her career-best 10-game hit streak come to an end Sunday.
– Junior Brittany Vanderink went 1-for-2 in game one Sunday. She went 4-for-4 last year at Iowa’s Pearl Field and now leads the Buckeyes with a .500 (7-for-14) career average against Iowa.
– Buckeyes in the field: In the first inning, senior left-fielder Megan Schwab made a running catch on the warning track just inside the foul line on a long fly ball hit by Iowa home run leader Emily Nichols. Schwab, who had three putouts in game one Sunday, leads OSU outfielders with 39 putouts.
– From her catcher position, Marder threw out her 10th would-be base stealer of the season in the fifth inning.
– Weather: Sunny and 73 degrees at first pitch. Wind 10-20 MPH right to left, slightly out to left. – Ohio State is now 31-57 all-time against Iowa, including 8-26 at Pearl Field since 1988.
– Iowa has 13 letterwinners back from its 2006 team that went 39-22 overall and finished third in the Big Ten at 12-7.
