Two Buckeyes Named National Strength and Conditioning Association All-Americans – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The National Strength and Conditioning Association has honored two Buckeyes, senior defenseman Sean Collins of the men’s hockey team and senior first baseman Christina Douglas of the softball squad, for their dedication to strength training and conditioning.
This season, 239 collegiate athletes from 165 schools were honored by the NSCA. The NSCA All-American Athlete of the Year Award program is in its 28th year and is made possible by a grant from Power Systems, Inc., a Knoxville, Tenn., fitness product leader.
Collins, from Troy, Mich., was the Buckeyes’ captain in 2006-07. Selected to the 2007 All-CCHA Second Team, he led the squad with a career-best 28 points and was second on the team with a career-best 19 assists. Collins tied for third on the team with nine goals, tying his career best, and had a career-high four power-play goals. He was a three-time CCHA Player of the Week, garnering defensive honors Nov. 20 and offensive accolades the following week (Nov. 27), as well as receiving defensive honors Dec. 25. Collins signed a contract with the NHL’s Washington Capitals following the season.
Collins was nominated by Anthony Glass, the OSU strength and conditioning coach, who said, “Collins is a leader in every form, on the ice, in the classroom, in the weight room, and as a team captain. He has grown both physically and mentally through strength and conditioning.”
Douglas, from Mesa, Ariz., was elected team captain prior to her senior season. In her third season starting for Ohio State, Douglas has collected 26 doubles in her career, to go along with nine home runs and 68 RBI. Douglas twice has been named Academic All-Big Ten and is a three-time OSU Scholar-Athlete. In 2005 she was named OSU’s Most Improved Player and won the Buckeye Power Club Award for her effort in the weight room.
Douglas was nominated by Tom Palumbo, the OSU strength and conditioning coach, who said, “Dougie has the mental toughness of a warrior and has a never-give-in attitude. She is a standout on a team of Buckeyes who are dedicated in the weight room and on the field. Christina was the obvious choice.”
