– Buckeyes at the plate: Freshman Sam Marder’s first inning home run was her second of the tournament and seventh of the season, which ties her for second-most ever by an OSU freshman. Courtney Pruner hit seven in 2006. Kristine Himes owns the record for homers by a freshman with 10 in 2000 … Brittany Vanderink’s single was her 98th career hit. She and Christina Douglas (99 hits) are both closing in on 100 career hits.
– Buckeyes in the circle: In the second inning, sophomore Kim Reeder had her streak of consecutive innings without allowing an earned run snapped at 26. Reeder has now thrown five complete games in eight starts this season.
– Weather: sunny and 81 degrees at first pitch. Light breeze in from right field.
– Ohio State is now 2-3 all-time against Central Michigan. The Buckeyes won 8-3 in Columbus last year.
– Central Michigan has 10 letterwinners back from its 2006 team that went 22-27 overall and 13-7 in the Mid-American Conference West for a second-place finish.
