Recap | Box Score
– Saturday marked the sixth time this season Ohio State collected 10 or more hits in a game.
– The Buckeyes are now 4-0 at home this season and 14-4 when scoring first.
– Buckeyes at the plate: With her single through the right side in the fourth inning, junior Brittany Vanderink extended her team-best hitting streak to 10 games. Her personal record is 13 straight games.
– The four runs batted in for freshman Sam Marder ties her career high, set initially in the season-opener when she hit a grand slam against New Mexico … Marder’s two doubles in the game were a career high.
– Several Buckeyes have impressive career batting averages against Minnesota, including Liz Caputo (.563, 9-for-16), Christina Douglas (.643, 9-for-14), Jamee Juarez (.391, 9-for-23), Nycole Koyano (.379, 11-for-29) and Brittany Vanderink (.438, 7-for-16).
– Buckeyes in the circle: Senior Jamee Juarez is now 19.1 innings pitched from the Ohio State career innings pitched record, held by Katie Chain (677.1 IP, 2000-03) … with 63 career wins, Juarez (8-7 this season) is four wins shy of the all-time wins record … in six career appearances against Minnesota, Juarez is now 5-0 with a save. – Buckeyes in the field: Senior Megan Schwab made two diving catches on soft line drives in left field Saturday … “Our defense is coming along,” Kalafatis said. “The more we are outside in the dirt the better. Megan Schwab made two great plays in left field and Liz Caputo did a great job of fielding a sure-double off the wall and holding it to a single. The kids played hard today for sure.”
– Weather: Cloudy and 60 degrees at first pitch. Slight breeze right to left. Showers moved into the area (2 hour and 21 minute rain delay). 55 degrees when play resumed.
– Minnesota leads the all-time series with Ohio State, 55-28, but the Buckeyes have won six in a row over the Gophers. At Buckeye Field, Ohio State is now 20-12 all-time against Minnesota since the facility opened in 1988.
