– Ohio State head coach Linda Kalafatis won her 350th game at Ohio State Friday. She is already the program’s all-time wins leader and is one of three coaches in the Big Ten with more than 600 career wins (623).
– The last time Ohio State won a game 1-0 in seven innings was April 23, 2004, at Illinois. The last time Ohio State won a game 1-0 in any amount of innings was in 10 innings on May 18, 2006 against No. 25 Auburn in the NCAA Tucson Regional.
– Ohio State senior catcher Lauren Daykin and Utah senior pitcher Karina Cannon are natives of Australia and were teammates on the Australian Junior National Team.
– Buckeyes at the plate: Junior Brittany Vanderink extended her current hitting streak to six games.
– Senior Megan Schwab hit her sixth double of the season. Schwab’s 42 career doubles are three shy of No. 2 all-time at Ohio State (45 by Stacy Roth, 1999-2002).
– Buckeyes in the circle: Senior Jamee Juarez won her 61st career game Friday, which are six shy of school record, and pitched her 60th complete game. Her 22 career shutouts are four shy of the school record of 26 held by Katie Chain (2000-03) … Juarez is the third OSU pitcher to collect more than 600 strikeouts (Katie Chain, 692, 2000-03 and Kristi DeVries, 624, 2001-04) … Friday marked the 14th time in Juarez’s career she pitched six or more innings without walking a batter. – Weather: Sunny and 73 degrees at first pitch.
– Ohio State is now 4-8 all-time against Utah. The Buckeyes have won the last two meetings in the series (Feb. 12, 2006, 11-9 in Las Cruces, N.M.)
– First-year Utah head coach Angie Jacobs is the all-time wins leader at Miami (Ohio) University (172 wins, 1999-2006).
– Utah has seven letterwinners back from its 2006 team that went 40-21, won the Mountain West Conference (15-2) and made the Utes’ 13th trip to the NCAA tournament.
