Ohio State Drops Game One at Loyola Marymount, 3-2 – Ohio State Buckeyes

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Loyola Marymount upped its winning streak to 12 games, 11 of those coming at home, with a 3-2 win over the Ohio State softball team Wednesday in the first game of a doubleheader at LMU’s Smith Field in Los Angeles. The Buckeyes (14-12) led 2-1 through five innings, but the Lions (25-11) scored twice in the bottom of the sixth inning for the come-from-behind win.
OSU senior Nycole Koyano (Walnut, Calif./Walnut) tripled twice for the Buckeyes, including one to lead off the game and another in the third inning that resulted in Ohio State’s two runs.
LMU starter Melissa Dykema upped her record to 16-5 already this season, scattering five OSU hits and striking out seven.
OSU freshman reliever Megan Miller (Woodland Hills, Calif./El Camino Real) came on in the fifth inning with runners at second and third and no outs. Miller got a groundout and a pop out before walking a batter to load the bases, but then got a ground out to end the Lion scoring threat and preserve the Buckeyes’ 2-1 lead.
The Lions would not let their scoring opportunity pass them by in the sixth, however, with a walk, double and single to score the game-tying and winning runs. Miller suffered the loss to see her record slip to 1-1.
Koyano’s second triple scored Michelle Reynolds-Parra (So., Columbus, Ohio/Eastmoor), who was pinch-running for senior Lauren Daykin (Melbourne, Australia/Manatee C.C., Fla.), who had singled. Koyano scored on the play on a throwing error by the LMU second baseman attempting to get Parra at the plate. OSU starter Kim Reeder (So., Salinas, Calif./Notre Dame H.S.) pitched four complete innings, allowing four hits and one run with one strikeout and one walk.
The Buckeyes and Lions meet in game two Wednesday at approximately 2:10 p.m. (PT).
