– Buckeyes at the plate: Junior Brittany Vanderink and freshman Sam Marder extended their current hitting streaks to five games each … Marder had two RBIs in the game, giving her a team-best 21 already this season. The OSU freshman RBI record is held by Jamee Juarez with 36 in 2004.
– Buckeyes in the circle: Freshman Megan Miller got her second collegiate start Saturday night. In both her starts, the Buckeyes won but Miller did not get the decision.
– Buckeyes in the field: Defensive highlights were turned in Nycole Koyano at shortstop and Brittany Vanderink at second with snags of line drives and centerfielder Liz Caputo, who ran down a fly ball in the gap to end LIU’s scoring threat in the top of the eighth inning.
– Weather: Clear and 71 degrees at first pitch. Wind 0 to 5 MPH out to right field.
– Ohio State is now 2-0 all-time against Long Island. These teams first met in Palm Springs, Calif., in 2005, with Ohio State winning 11-2. – Long Island has made five NCAA tournament appearances, including last season when the Blackbirds went 34-23 and 17-3 in the Northeast Conference to tie for first. LIU is current on a 12-day, 14-game trip in the Tampa area.
