BOCA RATON, Fla. – Ohio State pitcher Jamee Juarez took a perfect game into the fifth inning and finished with a two-hit shutout in leading the Buckeye softball team to a 2-0 win over North Carolina State Saturday at the Florida Atlantic University Doubletree Classic. Juarez (so., La Puente, Calif./Wilson) struck out nine batters, duplicating her effort from last season when she shut out the Wolfpack, 2-0, at the Winthrop Invitational.
Ohio State improves to 2-1, while N.C. State falls to 11-7.
Ohio State sophomore Megan Schwab (Glendale, Ariz./Sunrise Mountain) factored into both Ohio State runs. Her RBI single in the third inning scored sophomore Nycole Koyano (Walnut, Calif./Walnut), who walked to lead off the inning. Then in the sixth inning, Schwab walked to lead off the inning and scored when a single by Juarez was mishandled by the Wolfpack centerfielder, allowing Schwab to score from second base.
Schwab was 2-for-2 and also caught deep fly ball on the warning track in the fifth inning.
Junior Chelsea Baker (Gahanna, Ohio/DeSales) and freshman Brittany Vanderink (Hiram, Ohio/Crestwood) both added singles in Ohio State’s six-hit attack.
Ohio State will face Pittsburgh at approximately 2 p.m. Saturday.
