Ohio State Softball Beats Pittsburgh, 3-0 – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State softball team improved to 24-14 overall with a 3-0 win over visiting Pittsburgh (16-23) Wednesday afternoon in game one of a doubleheader at Buckeye Field. Freshman pitcher Jamee Juarez moved to 11-5 on the year, while Pittsburgh’s Christa Hunter moved to 0-2 on the season. Karisa Evans, and Nycole Koyano each scored in the first inning, while Breana Pozzi crossed home at the bottom of the fourth to account for the three Buckeye runs. Juarez and Meghan Rowlands each were credited with an RBI.
Evans opened the game by getting walked and advanced to second off a Koyano bunt to the catcher. Chelsea Baker made it to first on a fielder’s choice; Koyano went to second and Evans made it to third off a Pittsburgh fielding error by the shortstop. Juarez hit a sacrifice fly to the right field, which brought in Evans and sent Koyano to third. Chelsea Baker and Koyano stole second and home, respectively.
In the bottom of the fourth, Pozzi scored the third Buckeye run when she slid in at home under the catcher after a bunt by Rowlands, who made it to first on a fielder’s choice. Pozzi’s single to right field put her on first, she advanced to second when Natalie Hales was walked and made it to third off a Beth McAbier sacrifice bunt.
The Buckeyes play the second game vs. Pittsburgh immediately following the first contest at Buckeye Field. Ohio State returns to Big Ten action vs. Michigan State at 6 p.m. Friday under the lights of Buckeye Field.
