HONOLULU, Hawai’i– For the second-consecutive game, the No. 16 Ohio State softball team (14-8) dropped a close 1-0 decision, this time to the Pacific Tigers, Friday in game five of the Hawai’i/Chevron Invitational. The Buckeyes were only able to record two hits off Pacific starter Jennifer Dacre (6-6). With the loss, the Buckeyes drop to 1-2 at the Chevron tournament.
Kristi DeVries (Jr., Corona, Calif.) went the distance for the Buckeyes, allowing just three hits while striking out four. Two hit-batsmen and four walks, though, were enough to give Pacific the 1-0 victory. Dacre allowed just two hits and two walks while striking out five.
The Tigers scored the lone run in the bottom of the third when Barbara Moody was walked in when DeVries hit Pacific batter Michelle Anunciation with the bases loaded to force home the run. Further damage was avoided when DeVries made a nice snag in the circle off an Ashlie D’Errico line drive with the bases loaded.
Annie Dedic (Sr., Yorba Linda, Calif.) and Kristine Himes (Sr., Bolivar, Ohio) each recorded a hit for Ohio State. The Buckeyes were unable to advance a runner past second base for the duration of the game.
The Buckeyes will look to rebound Saturday when they face the Hawai’i Rainbow Wahine at 1 p.m. The remainder of the tournament will be determined by seeding.
