Softball Tops Dayton and Wright State at Raider Fall Classic – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State softball team defeated Dayton, 7-0, and host Wright State, 5-2, Saturday afternoon during the first day of the 2003 Raider Fall Classic. The Buckeyes improve to 7-0 this fall and will face Wittenberg and Miami (Ohio) Sunday during the second and final day of the event.
In the shutout of Dayton, Ohio State collected 11 hits as five Buckeyes notched two hits each, including sophomore Billie Jo Carder (Celina, Ohio/Celina), who cranked a pair of doubles and drove in two runs. Adding two singles in the game were freshman Megan Schwab (Glendale, Ariz./Sunrise Mountain), freshman Nycole Koyano (Walnut, Calif./Walnut), sophomore Stacy Hibma (Buena Park, Calif./Valley Christian) and senior Breana Pozzi (Petaluma, Calif./Casa Grande).
A trio of Ohio State pitchers, including freshman Jamee Juarez (LaPuente, Calif./Wilson), senior Kristi DeVries (Corona, Calif./Corona) and sophomore Andrea Tribuzi (Plano, Texas/East), combined to collect seven strikeouts and held Dayton to five hits.
In the second game, a 5-2 win over host Wright State, Buckeye sophomore Chelsea Baker (Gahanna, Ohio/DeSales) pitched all seven innings, striking out five and allowing three hits while adding two hits at the plate herself. Junior Ashley Cutcliff (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville) smacked a two-run homer in the third inning to put Ohio State up 4-1. The Buckeyes out-hit Wright State 10-3 in the game, with three of those OSU hits coming from the bat of Schwab and another two from Pozzi, who drove in two runs.
