%^$COLUMBUS, Ohio – Wendy Allen (So., Moreno Valley, Calif./Moreno Valley) struck out seven Robert Morris batters in seven innings of work to record the first no-hitter of her Buckeye career and went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Ohio State softball team to an 8-0 defeat of the Colonials Saturday at Buckeye Field in the fifth game of the Buckeye Invitational. Allen scored once and picked up two RBI while Elizabeth Kacsanek (Jr., Uniontown, Ohio/Green) also recorded two RBI with a pinch hit single to help the Buckeyes improve to 17-5 on the year and pushed to Colonials to 7-10 after their second game in a row with out a hit. Seton Hall’s Meg Meyer pitched a perfect game over RMU in the first game of the day.%^$
%^$The Buckeyes wasted little time putting runs on the board as the designated visiting team. With one out, Anna Smith (Sr., Walnut, Calif./Diamond Bar) singled down the right field line and then stole second. Allen came to the plate and doubled to center field to bring in Smith for the 1-0 lead. Chrissy Fowler (Sr., Utica, Ohio/Wright State), with two outs, singled to right center to bring in Allen and take a 2-0 lead. The Colonials went three-up and three down in the first three and last two innings including a three strikeout performance by Allen in the third.%^$
%^$OSU returned to the offensive in the second with another pair of runs. Annie Dedic (Jr., Yorba Linda, Calif./Fullerton JC) walked and advanced to second on a Kristine Himes (Jr., Bolivar, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley) sacrifice bunt. Dedic moved to third on a JJ Johnson (Fr., LaMirada, Calif./LaMirada) single. Rogeanna Hottinger (Jr., Newark, Ohio/Newark) pinch ran for Johnson and stole second to put runners at second and third. Jennifer Link (Jr., Yorba Linda, Calif./Sonora) doubled to the shortstop to plate the two runs when she grounded a hard shot towards the hole and a diving Julie Connor got a glove on the ball. The ball slipped away from her glove and ricochetted off third baseman Melissa Matteson. Both runners scored during the Colonials’ attempts to secure the ball Link rounded first to take second.%^$
%^$Leading 4-0, the Buckeyes did not stop adding run support for Allen. With one out, Link walked and stole second. A Smith double moved her to third and an Allen sacrifice fly to center allowed Smith to score for the only run of the fourth. OSU added another pair in the fifth after two outs were recorded. Amy Ellis (Jr., Erie, Pa./McDowell) walked and moved to third after an Allen double. Karisa Evans (Fr., Franklin, Ohio/Franklin) came in to run for Allen and scored with Ellis when Kacsanek singled to left center to bring the score to 7-0. OSU added its final run in the top of the seventh after Sarah West (Sr., Galloway, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) opened the stanza with a triple to right center. She tagged up and scored on a Dedic sacrifice fly to center for a final of 8-0.%^$
%^$The Buckeyes pounded out 11 hits with eight different players recording hits and eight separate players crossing home plate. The win also moved the Buckeyes to 2-0 in the tournament and drop the Colonials to 1-2 in the event.%^$
