Softball Edged by Arkansas, 1-0, in Rematch – Ohio State Buckeyes

%^$COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State softball team (9-7) had the tables turned on them by Arkansas Sunday afternoon, falling to the Razorbacks 1-0.%^$
%^$ With the loss, the Buckeyes finish play at the Golden Panther Invitational, hosted by Florida International University in Miami, Fla., with a record of 2-3 to finish fourth in the six-team field.%^$
%^$One of OSU’s two wins came over Arkansas Friday night. (OSU also defeated Florida Atlantic) The Buckeyes edged the Razorbacks, 2-1, on a fifth inning-Sarah West home run.%^$
%^$The Buckeyes nearly managed more late-game heroics Sunday but came up short.%^$Kristine Himes (So., Bolivar, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley singled to right field to open the top of the seventh inning. Sarah West (Jr., Galloway, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) then coaxed a walk, putting Jenn Elwell (Jr., Dearborn Heights, Mich./Divine Child), who had pinch ran for Himes, on second.%^$
%^$Rachel Talley was then called on to relieve starter Heather Schlichtman at pitcher. A wild pitch moved Elwell to third and West to second with no outs. The Buckeyes could not put the ball in play to push the tying run across the plate, however.%^$
%^$Chrissy Fowler (Jr., Utica, Ohio/Utica) and Holly English (Sr., Akron, Ohio/Springfield) struck out and a diving catch of a Anna Smith (Jr., Walnut, Calif./Diamond Bar) line drive by centerfielder Tiffany Johnson ended the Buckeye scoring threat and the game.%^$
%^$Krisit DeVries (Fr., Corona, Calif./Corona) took the loss for the Buckeyes. She is now 4-4 on the season after striking out seven and giving up just three hits in the six innings of work.%^$Schlictman gave up four hits and struck out four in six innings of work before Talley came in with runners on second and third to retire the final three outs and pick up the win.%^$
%^$Arkansas scored the lone run of the game in the bottom of the first inning. Leadoff hitter Stephanie Hunter, the right fielder, singled to third base. A sacrifice bunt by designated player Stephanie Woolley moved Hunter to second with one out. Hunter reached third on a passed ball and scored when second baseman Cortney Mitchell drove her in with a single to left field to give Arkansas all the offense they would need. The Razorbacks managed just one hit for the remainder of the afternoon.%^$
%^$Jenn Link (So.,Yorba Linda, Calif./Sonora) picked up two singles for the Buckeyes. DeVries and Himes each had a single as well.%^$
%^$OSU returns from Miami, Fla., late Monday night and is scheduled to play host to Youngstown State in a doubleheader at Buckeye field at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
