Softball Shuts Out Tennessee Tech, 6-0 – Ohio State Buckeyes

%^$ATLANTA- Capitalizing on a couple of early miscues by its opponent, Tennessee Tech, the Ohio State softball team (20-8 overall) scored four runs in the first inning en route to a 6-0 shutout over the Golden Eagles at the Buzz Classic, hosted by Georgia Tech at the Al Bishop Softball Complex in Atlanta, Ga.%^$
%^$The win marks the Buckeyes’ 11th in a row and third at the Buzz Classic. OSU has yet to allow at the Buzz Classic and has gone six games without giving up a run.%^$
%^$Wendy Allen (Fr., Moreno Valley, Calif./Moreno Valley) tossed the latest shutout for the Buckeyes, allowing just three hits ans striking out five in the complete game effort. With the win, Allen improves to 4-1 on the season. Tennessee Tech falls to 18-12 with the loss.%^$
%^$OSU jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, thanks in part to two errors by the Golden Eagles. With one out, Jenn Link (So., Yorba Linda, Calif./Sonora) reached on an error by shortstop Leanne Holley. The error proved costly when the next batter, catcher Stacy Roth, (Jr., Wauseon, Ohio/Wauseon) smacked a double to right center to score Link. Kristi DeVries (Fr., Corona, Calif./Corona) then reached second on an error by Pitcher Adrienne Fortman. The error allowed Roth to score from second. Allen drew a walk. After Allen and DeVries advanced to second and third, respectively, when Sarah West (Jr., Galloway, Ohio/Hillard Davidson) grounded out to third base. Kristine Himes (So., Bolivar, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley) singled to left center to bring in DeVries and Allen and give OSU a 4-0 lead.%^$
%^$The Buckeyes added one run in both the fifth and sixth innngs.%^$
%^$Roth was hit by a pitch to open the bottom of the fifth inning. She moved to second on a single to right center by Allen and scored when West singled to right field.%^$
%^$In the sixth, Anna Smith (Jr., Walnut, Calif./Diamond Bar) reached on a fielder’s choice. She stole second base and scored the final run of the game when leftfielder Whitney Williams dropped a fly ball off the bat of Link.%^$
%^$OSU faces North Carolina at 5:30 p.m.
