Softball Leads 3-0 in Buckeye Invitational – Ohio State Buckeyes

%^$COLUMBUS, Ohio—The Ohio State softball team is leading 3-0 after day one of the Buckeye Invitational at Buckeye Field. Grand Slam, Robert Morris and Miami Valley have each won a game.%^$
%^$The Buckeyes were led in game one by Anna Smith (Jr., Walnut, Calif./Diamond Bar) and Jennifer Link (So., Yorba Linda, Calif./Sonora) who each posted two runs and two hits. Breana Pozzi (Fr., Petaluma, Calif./Casa Grande) hit the only home run in the game in the bottom of the fourth inning, which gave OSU a 3-0 lead. Ohio State went on to win the game 8-0.%^$
%^$Grand Slam scored five runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 5-4 lead over Miami Valley in game two. Grand Slam scored two more runs in the fourth to bring the score to 7-4. They went on to defeat Miami Valley by a score of 7-5.%^$
%^$Pitcher Kristi DeVries (Fr., Corona, Calif./Corona) hurled 15 strikeouts in game three to defeat Robert Morris by a score of 2-0. Smith scored the Buckeye’s first run in the bottom of the fifth. Then in the bottom of the sixth, Chrissy Fowler (Jr., Utica, Ohio/Wright State) came home on a passed ball to score the other OSU run.%^$
%^$The following game, Ohio State scored two quick runs in the first inning after an error by Grand Slam’s third baseman, Megan Rowlands. The Buckeyes scored two additional runs in the second and third innings before Grand Slam hit two in the bottom of the inning. Ohio State went on to win 4-2.%^$
%^$In the fifth and final game of the day, Miami Valley rallied in the bottom of the sixth for seven runs to defeat Robert Morris 8-4. Robert Morris was leading 5-1 going into the inning. Miami Valley was lead by Emily Futscher who posted three hits and three RBI, while teammates Ciji Nelson and Ashley Frank added another two hits for the team.%^$
%^$The Buckeye Invitational will continue tomorrow with the first game slated for 9:00 am at Buckeye Field.%^$
