Ohio State Softball Falls to No. 19 Long Beach State, 3-2 – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – %^$The Ohio State softball team (14-10) dropped a heartbreaker to No. 19 Long Beach State, 3-2, today at the 49er Softball Complex in Fullerton, Calif. The Buckeyes lost in the bottom of the seventh inning as Long Beach State scored on two Buckeye errors to win the game, 3-2.%^$
%^$Both teams were scoreless until the seventh inning when Jennifer Link led off with a walk from LBS’s Kristi Fox. Link moved to second off a single from Roth and to third off an error from the second baseman. Rogeanna Hottinger belted a double to score Link and Sarah West followed with a one-run double to centerfield to give the Buckeyes a 2-0 lead.%^$
%^$However, the 49ers would rally back when Jennifer Spigner and Jaclyn Fredrickson advanced on walks to open the bottom of the seventh. Villones then singled to leftfield to score Spigner. Ohio State nearly had the upset, but would fall after two costly errors occurred with one out. On a fielder’s choice to the shortstop, pinch runner Natalie Bonillas would score off a bad throw to the catcher. The 49ers would score again off another Buckeye error to clinch the 3-2 win.%^$
%^$Inside the circle, Katie Chain completed the game and gave up only two hits to fall 6-3 for the season.%^$
%^$The Buckeyes will again be tested as they take on No. 9 Cal State Fullerton in Fullerton, Calif. tomorrow at 5 p.m. (PST).
