Ohio State advanced to the semifinals of the Winthrop Invitational after defeating Pittsburgh, 2-0, today in Rock Hill, S.C.
Freshman Katie Chain posted her sixth win of the season after giving only two hits and striking out a season-high 11 batters.
Both teams remained scoreless in the first inning, but the Buckeyes came back in the top of the second to go up 1-0. Sarah West advanced to first off an error from the Pittsburgh catcher and scored Kristine Himes.
Ohio State added another run in the top of the sixth as Renae Weigel doubled to leftfield to score Stacy Roth.
Inside the circle, Chain is now 6-2, gave up only two hits and striking out 11 batters. For the tournament, Chain struck out a total of 26 batters of the 50 she faced.
Ohio State now takes on No. 11 Southern Mississippi in the semifinal game of the Winthrop Invitational today at 11:30 a.m. at the Cherry Field in Rock Hill, S.C
