COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State softball posted a 2-0 win over North Carolina-Wilmington today at the Winthrop InInvitational in Rock Hill, S.C. Kristi Martin captured the win after only giving up two hits and striking out 12 batters, tying her season-high. The Buckeyes now improve to 9-8 overall and 2-0 in the tournament.
Sophomore Anna Smith led off in the first inning with a single to third. She moved to second as Holly English bunted to the second baseman. Both advanced as Jennifer Link slapped a sacrifice to the pitcher. Smith then scored on a pass ball. Ohio State led 1-0.
Ohio State nabbed another run when Link led off the fourth inning with a double to leftfield. Weigel bunted to the first baseman to score Link and give the Buckeyes the 2-0 victory.
Inside the circle, Martin gave up only two hits, no walks and struck out 12 in seven innings of pitching. She improves to 3-4 for the season and has an ERA of 2.17
Ohio State will next compete against UNC-Charlotte tomorrow at 3 p.m. in Rock Hill, S.C.
