Scarlet Wins Softball’s Championship Series – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio-The Ohio State softball Scarlet team defeated the Gray, 2-1, in the final game of the first ever softball Scarlet and Gray Championship Series today at Buckeye Field. The game rounded out the softball fall exhibition season.
In the first inning, Gray’s Holly English (Sr., Akron, Ohio/Springfield) scored on a error by catcher Annie Dedic (Fr., Yorba Linda, Calif.). The Scarlet Buckeyes got on the board in the bottom of the inning after Katie Chain (So., North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) hit a double to center field bringing home Anna Smith (Jr., Walnut, Calif./Diamond Bar). In the bottom of the third inning, Smith scored the game-winning run after a fielding error by English.
The Ohio State softball team will begin its regular season February 9-11, 2001, at the Auburn Tournament in Auburn, Ala.
