Men’s Volleyball Opens Season With 3-0 Win Over American University – Ohio State Buckeyes

FT. WAYNE, IND. – Behind a .594 team hitting percentage, the Ohio State (1-0) men’s volleyball squad opened the 2000 season with a 3-0 (15-0, 15-4, 15-3) win over American University (0-1) of Puerto Rico in the Sports Corp Shootout at Indiana-Purdue, Ft. Wayne. The hitting percentage is the second highest recorded mark in the 33-year history of the program only bettered by a .671 at Mercyhurst in 1997. Leading the Buckeyes with a match-high 10 kills was Pieter Olree. Greg Lehman added nine while Rene Esteves and Todd Hill had seven each. For American, Elivis Contreras and Juan C. Palacios shared team-high honors with five kills each.
For the match, American hit a -.143, had five digs, two ace serves and one block for the match. They hit negative in games one (-.455) and three (-.074) while hitting .000 in game two. The Buckeyes had six aces serves, led by Chris Fash with two that equaled his career high. OSU added 14 digs and 13.5 total blocks for the game.
The Buckeyes continue play in the Sports Corp Shootout as they face Concordia College Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
