Ohio State Drops Match vs No. 12 Lindenwood in Intense Five-Setter

No. 5 Seed Buckeyes Will Travel to No. 4 Seed McKendree for MIVA Quarterfinal Round
COLUMBUS, Ohio—No. 17 Ohio State (14-11, 9-7) fell to No. 12 Lindenwood (20-6, 11-5) in five sets on Saturday afternoon at Hyland Arena.

The Buckeyes won the first and second sets with scores of 25-14 and 25-15. In a close third set, the Lions ultimately took it, 25-23. Lindenwood took the fourth set in extra points, 29-27. The fifth set was taken by the Lions with a score of 15-11.

Stanislaw Chacinski led Ohio State in kills with 13. Captain Shane Wetzel followed closely with 11 kills.

Eliel Salva-Torres had four blocks and nine kills, hitting .667. Aaron Grimm also added four blocks and four kills.

Daniel Henwood Rodriguez had four service aces and put up three blocks for the Buckeyes.

Set 1 (25-14, OSU)
Stanislaw Chacinski started the match strong with a huge backrow kill for the 1-0 lead. Daniel Hurley continued the Buckeyes' lead with a service ace, 3-1. A setter dump by Daniel Henwood Rodriguez gave Ohio State a three-point advantage, 4-1. A kill by Hurley forced Lindenwood's first timeout, 10-4. Chacinski extended the lead out of the timeout, 11-4. Eliel Salva-Torres put down a kill out of the middle for the 10-point advantage, 17-7. A block by Henwood Rodriguez and Salva-Torres continued the large 19-10 lead. Aaron Grimm and Chacinski put up a massive block that extended the lead to 11-points, 22-11. The Buckeyes took the first set with a score of 25-14. Â

Set 2 (25-15, OSU)
Shane Wetzel put down a kill that gave Ohio State the early lead in the second set, 2-1. Henwood Rodriguez added a service ace that extended to a 6-4 lead. A huge block by Chacinski and Grimm kept the momentum moving for the Buckeyes, 7-4. Chacinski put down a service ace for himself that continued to a seven-point advantage, 12-5. Another kill by Hurley from the outside preserved the multi-point lead, 14-8. Salva-Torres added another kill for the eight-point advantage, 16-8. Henwood Rodriguez recorded another service ace for Ohio State, 20-12. Another kill by Wetzel from the right-side continued the lead to 23-15. A triple block by Salva-Torres, Hurley and Henwood Rodriguez won the second set for the Buckeyes, 25-15.

Set 3 (25-23, LIN)
Wetzel tooled off the Lindenwood block to tie the third set at 1-all. The Lions kept it close at 4-all. Grimm kept Ohio State within one-point with a massive kill out of the middle, 7-6 Lindenwood. A backrow attack by Chacinski kept the Buckeyes close, 10-8. Salva-Torres denied the Lions' attack with a huge block, 11-9. Wetzel tied the set at 11-all with an out-of-system kill. Another kill by Wetzel took the lead for Ohio State at 13-12. Chacinski continued the one-point advantage with a massive kill, 14-13. Another skilled kill off the block by Wetzel kept the third set tied at 19-all. A kill by Chacinski off the block gave the Buckeyes the lead again, 22-21. The Lions took the third set, 25-23.

Set 4 (29-27, LIN)
Salva-Torres put Ohio State on the scoreboard with a kill, 2-1 Lindenwood. A kill by Wetzel kept the Buckeyes within one-point, 4-3. Wetzel put up a huge solo-block to preserve the one-point deficit, 7-6. Another massive block by Salva-Torres and Chacinski put Ohio State within one-point, 11-10. A service ace by Hurley tied the fourth set at 11-all. Salva-Torres put down another kill from the middle for the two-point advantage, 14-12. The Lions tied the set at 19-all. A huge block by Grimm and Chacinski continued the tie at 22-all. Wetzel kept the tie at 25-all in extra points. Lindenwood took the fourth set, 29-27. Â

A block by Salva-Torres and Hurley put the Buckeyes on the scoreboard at 1-all. Skilled attack placement by Salva-Torres gave Ohio State an early advantage, 2-1. Chacinski kept it close with a kill, 5-4 Lions. A kill by Grimm kept the Buckeyes in it, 10-7. Hurley buried a kill that kept Ohio State within three-points, 11-8. Another massive kill by Salva-Torres continued the momentum, 13-10 Lions. Lindenwood took the fifth set, 15-11.
