Columbus, Ohio – For all the seniors on the Ohio State softball team – this is it. Four years seems to go buy with lightning speed. Natalie Kratzer and Jaime Chenevey talk about the team and respective futures.
Q: How has your senior year been?
Natalie Kratzer: Its going fast – too fast. I havent been able to think about other stuff in my life because Im so into whats going on right now.
Q: On a personal level, what do you have to do the remainder of the season to walk away happy.
NK: Id like to have a successful season. I know thats what the team wants and its something we are capable of doing.
Q: Are you nervous about post-college life?
NK: I just need a positive transition from doing something every single day of my life to not having it there everyday. But I think Ill be ready to take the next step when the time is here. Q: Do you have any immediate plans?
NK: To graduate with my license in social work with a specialty in child welfare. I would like to take a little time off to just collect myself before I head into the real world and start working in the child services industry.
Q: How do you want your teammates to remember when your gone?
NK: I hope I made an impact on them in some way. Whether it be through friendships or something on the field. I hope they remember as a being a good leader.
Q: What do you think is the biggest difference in you now than when you were a freshman?
NK: I wish I could come in as a freshman knowing what I do now. Just the intensity and knowing more about the game. Its such a big step from high school to college. I know the freshman are seeing that now. I wish I could come in knowing what I know now and to be able to play at the level I am playing at now. Q: What are your post college plans?
Jaime Chenevey: This summer, Im considering playing in the pro softball league. In the fall, Im going to attend grad school here at Ohio State, then after finishing grad school I would like to get a teaching job somewhere in Ohio.
Q: What was it like to be drafted by the Womens Pro Softball League?
JC: It was awesome. I didnt know about the league until Jodi (Dolan) got drafted last year. Once I heard that, I knew it was one of my goals for this year. It was great.
Q: You had the chance to participate at the USA Softball National team camp in San Diego last October. What did you gain from that experience?
JC: When I got the letter, it made me realize that I can compete with the highest level of competition. It gave me a such a tremendous confidence boost.
Q: What else would you like to accomplish this last half of the season.?
JC: I would like to pick up my game defensively. I havent been doing what I consider a good job as far as picking runners off and throwing runners out. Offensively, I need to just stay where I am at hitting and hopefully even pick up a couple of records a long the way.
