Fullerton, Calif. – The Ohio State softball team (7-9 overall, 0-0 in Big Ten) fell to No. 4-ranked Washington, 4-1.
%^$”We have nothing to be ashamed of,” head coach Linda Kalafatis said. “For the most part, we held our own against one of the best teams in the country. We had our chances to make something happen but we just couldn’t get our offense untracked.”
%^$The Huskies took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning. They added another run in the top of the third and capped off their offense with a two run home run in the top of the seventh.
%^$The Buckeyes tallied their only run of the game in the bottom of the seventh. With one out, Katie Wessendorf (So., Waterville, Ohio), singled to centerfield. Renae Weigel (Jr., Coldwater, Ohio) immediately followed with a single to leftfield. The duo advanced a base off a wild pitch by UW starting pitcher Jamie Graves. Toni Hileman (Jr., Alliance, Ohio) grounded out to the second baseman but scored Wessendorf in the process.
%^$Inside the circle, Hileman pitched a solid outing. She went the distance, giving up four runs and striking out one. Her record dropped to 3-5 for the season.
%^$The Buckeyes will conclude their trip to Southern California with a game against Cal-State Fullerton tomorrow at 5 p.m. %^$
