Softball Loses Season Opener – Ohio State Buckeyes

Honolulu, Hawaii – The Ohio State softball team (0-1 overall) lost its season opener, 4-3, to Cal-State Fullerton at the Paradise Classic. %^$
%^$The Buckeyes jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning. In her first career at bat, Stacy Roth (Fr., Wauseon, Ohio), got the Buckeyes rolling with a leadoff single. She would advance to second base off a Carrie Vanderpool (Sr., Corona, Calif.) sacrifice bunt. Natalie Kratzer (Sr., Ashland, Ohio) immediately followed with a single to leftfield to advance Roth to third. Cheryl Palaroan (Sr., Reno, Nev.) drove Roth home off a fielders choice to the CSUF shortstop.%^$
%^$The Titans would fire back in the top of the sixth with four runs off three hits to take a 4-1 lead. %^$
%^$The Buckeyes would rally in the bottom of the seventh inning but came up short, scoring two runs. Samantha Kimura (Fr., Placentia, Calif), drove in Jaime Chenevey (Sr., Wooster, Ohio) for her first career run batted in. Roth added the final run, scoring Renae Weigel (Jr., Coldwater Ohio), with an RBI double to bring the score to 4-3.%^$
%^$Pitcher Meaghan Robinson (Sr., Naples, Fla.) was charged with the loss. She went 5.1 innings and gave up four runs, three earned runs and three hits. %^$
%^$The Buckeyes will continue through the Paradise Classic with two games tomorrow. At 8 a.m., OSU will play Oregon State and at 6 p.m., OSU will play the host school Hawaii.
