COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State softball team (26-20-0 overall, 5-11 in Big Ten) manhandled Ohio University (23-23-0 overall), winning both games of a doubleheader, 10-0 and 4-0. In game one, the Buckeyes exploded in the third inning with seven runs off seven hits. Leading the way was Jaime Chenevey (Jr., Wooster, Ohio) who blasted her fourth home run of the season and her second in two days. The three-run bomb gave game OSU a 3-0 lead, but the Buckeyes were no where near finished for the inning. Renae Weigel (So., Coldwater, Ohio) scored off a Toni Hileman (So. Alliance, Ohio) single. With Hileman and Natalie Tomoguchi (Sr., Irvine, Calif.) on base, Holly English (Fr., Akron, Ohio) belted her first career home run over the left field wall to give OSU a decisive 7-0 lead. The Buckeyes would tack on three more runs in the fourth to take a 10-0 lead. Kristi Martin (Fr., La Mirada, Calif.) improved her record to 8-5 on the season with a five-inning complete game performance. The win marked the 45th victory in the two-year tenure of OSU head coach Linda Kalafatis. The total now gives her more wins than any other OSU softball coach after their first two years at the helm. Both Diane Thompson (1979-80) and Gail Davenport (1989-90) each had 44 wins after their first two seasons. Game two was more of the same with OSU taking an early 2-0 lead in the first inning and winning the game by a 4-0 margin. The game was called during the bottom of the sixth inning due to rainfall. Jodi Dolan (Sr., Fallon, Nev.) improved her record to 9-6 on the season. Chenevey and Cheryl Palaroan (Jr., Reno, Nev.) led the way with 2-for-3 games. The Buckeyes will hit the field tomorrow when they play host to Wright State for a doubleheader at 3 p.m.
