Softball Loses To Michigan State – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State softball team (22-20-0 overall, 5-11-0 in Big Ten) fell by the tiniest of margins, 2-1, to the Michigan State Spartans (26-14-0 overall, 9-7-0). With the win, MSU also takes the series over OSU, 2-1 (the two teams split yesterday with OSU winning game one 6-1 and losing game two 3-1).
The Buckeyes tallied the first run of the contest in the top of the second inning. With two outs, and Renae Weigel (So., Coldwater, Ohio) on second base, Natalie Tomoguchi (Sr., Irvine, Calif.) drilled a single to give OSU an early 1-0 lead. But the Buckeye offensive attack would not get lose again the remainder of the contest.
MSU would tack on the tying and winning run in the top of the fourth inning of a RBI triple by Margaret Hollis and a RBI double by Molly Hugan.
OSUs Jodi Dolan (Sr., Fallon, Nev.) pitched an effective complete game. She gave up two runs and struck out a pair. Her record fell to 7-6 on the year.
MSUs Stefanie Noffsinger earned the win and improved her record to 13-8. She pitched four innings, gave up one run, and struck out one. Jacqueline Hall earned the save with three shutout innings of work.
The Buckeyes will remain home to play host to Youngstown State on Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Buckeye Field.
Notes: Tomoguchi pounded Michigan State pitching with six hits in seven at bats in the three-game series. She finished the weekend with a .857 average and two RBI.
