Softball Shuts Down Dayton – Ohio State Buckeyes

%^$ COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State softball team (19-18-0 overall, 4-9 in Big Ten) tossed back to back shutouts to defeat the Dayton Flyers (19-17-0 overall), 1-0 and 8-0. %^$

%^$Game one went down to the wire with the Buckeyes gutting out a 1-0 win in 10-innings. In the bottom of the tenth inning, with one out and Candace Kollen (Sr., Cerritos, Ohio) on second base, Holly English (Fr., Akron, Ohio) blasted a double to left-centefield to drive in the winning run. OSUs Meaghan Robinson (Jr., Naples, Fla.) started the game and pitched a magnificent nine innings of shutout ball. Jodi Dolan (Sr., Fallon, Nev.) entered the game in the top of the tenth, and pitched a flawless inning of relief work to earn the win. %^$

%^$Dayton’s Sara Hatcher saw her record fall to 10-6 on the season. She gave up only one run in 9.1 innings of work. %^$

%^$In game two, the Buckeyes decided to finish things early winning the game 8-0 in five innings (NCAA sofball invokes a mercy rule of eight runs after five innings). English kept her hot bat going with two RBI of a double. Dolan would knock in the final two runs to win the game. Also chipping in offensively was Carla Tobias (Jr., West Jefferson, Ohio), with her first hit and RBI as a Buckeye. She played the last two seasons at Malone College. %^$

%^$Toni Hileman (So., Alliance, Ohio) tossed her second shutout of the season. Her record improved to 3-3 on the year. Dayton’s Heidi Pease was charged with her fifth loss of the year (6-5). %^$

%^$The Buckeyes will return to the field tomorrow when they play host to a doubleheader against Bowling Green at 3 p.m. %^$
