Moldovan Wins First Collegiate Title at NEXUS Collegiate

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Maxwell Moldovan finally has his first collegiate victory. The Ohio State sophomore broke through and won the NEXUS Collegiate at The Albany Golf Club in the Bahamas this week.
Moldovan outlasted the field in tough, windy conditions on a challenging golf course. The average score for the three days was 79.87 and Moldovan shot rounds of 72-73-77 to finish at 6-over par. That was two shots better than a trio of players. He made 10 birdies on the week, which was second-best in the field.
This was Moldovan’s sixth Top 10 finish of his career and his third consecutive this season.
As a team, the Buckeyes finished runner-up, just three shots behind champion Auburn. The Buckeyes made the most birdies in the field this week and also led in par-5 scoring.
Sophomore Adam Wallin capped last week’s individual event in Georgia with a 4-under 68 to finish in third place. He opened this week’s event with another 4-under 68, which turned out to be the lone round in the 60s of the entire event. He posted his second-consecutive Top 10 finish, carding rounds of 68-80-80 to finish in a tie for seventh.
JonErik Alford played steady golf all three rounds, posting scores of 77-80-77 to finish in a tie for 16th at +18. He made a team-high six birdies in his round on Wednesday. This was just Alford’s fifth event as a member of the scoring five and it was his first Top 20 in those events.
Patrick Schmucking rebounded from a tough second round to post final round 77 that included a pair of birdies. He finished in a tie for 30th at +24. Marco Steyn carded his best round of the week on Wednesday with a 75 and he finished as shot behind Schmucking at +25. Jackson Chandler, who played as an individual this week, closed with an 87.
The Buckeyes will have a little more than two weeks off before returning to action at the Colleton River Collegiate on March 7-8. That event will be played at the Colleton River Plantation in Okatie, S.C.
