Wallin and Buckeyes Off to Good Start at Colleton River

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Sophomore Adam Wallin posted a pair of under-par rounds on Monday, leading Ohio State to a pair of under-par rounds as a team on a solid opening day at the Colleton River Collegiate in Bluffton, S.C.
Wallin made six birdies in his morning round of 4-under 68 and followed that with four birdies and just one bogey in a 3-under 69 in the afternoon. He is 7-under par and in third place, just three shots back of South Florida’s Albin Bergstrom. These were the first two back-to-back under-par rounds of Wallin’s career.
Marco Steyn played a steady opening round of 72 in the morning as he made a pair of birdies to offset a pair of bogeys. In the afternoon, he got hot with the putter and matched Wallin with six birdies in a second round 71. He is tied for 15th at 1-under par.
Maxwell Moldovan, Patrick Schmucking and JonErik Alford all finished 36 holes at 3-over par and tied for 33rd. Moldovan opened the second round with a quadruple-bogey seven on the par-3 fourth hole but battled back nicely with five birdies the rest of the way in a second-round 73. Schmucking made four birdies in the afternoon round, including a closing two at the par-3 fourth. Alford made a total of seven birdies on the day as he too birdied his final hole of the afternoon.
The Buckeyes carded matching rounds of 2-under 286 and are in fifth place at 4-under par. Georgia Southern leads the way at 16-under par but the Buckeyes are just six-shots back of Kansas State in second place. Ohio State will start Tuesday’s final round at 8:35 a.m. off the first tee.
