COLUMBUS, Ohio – Dillon Dingler, a junior on the Ohio State baseball team, has been named Baseball America’s Big Ten Preseason Player of the Year, the publication announced Tuesday.
A Second Team All-Big Ten pick a year ago, Dingler is in his second season as a captain of the Buckeyes. The backstop has appeared in 102 career games, including 88 starts, totaling 17 doubles, three triples, seven home runs, 62 runs scored and 36 RBI in two seasons.
As a sophomore in 2019, Dingler his .291 with nine doubles, two triples, three home runs and 19 RBI. He tallied 12 multi-hit games and recorded a career-best 32-game reached base streak. A native of North Canton, Ohio, Dingler is a two-time OSU Scholar-Athlete and a 2019 Academic All-Big Ten selection.
The Buckeyes open the 2020 campaign against St. Joseph’s at 1 p.m. Feb. 14 in Port Charlotte, Fla.
