COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State heads south to sunny Florida to open its 2021 season at the Big Ten Match Play Championship. The event is being held The Ocean Course at Hammock Beach Resort in Palm Coast, Fla. This will be the first of seven regular season events this spring for the Buckeyes before the Big Ten Championship at the end of April.
- Ohio State’s lineup will consist of Elis Svard, Patrick Schmucking, Felix Kvarnstrom, Jackson Chandler, Grant Engle and Adam Wallin.
- The Buckeyes have competed in 11 of the 12 previous installments of the tournament, dating back to 2009.
- Last year, Ohio State went 2-1 in its three matches. The Buckeyes tied Nebraska in the opener, but the Huskers advanced on the total holes won tiebreaker. They then rolled Wisconsin 5-1 and beat rival Michigan by the same score to close out the event.
- Felix Kvarnstrom and Patrick Schmucking ran the table in their matches, each finishing a perfect 3-0 for the tournament.
- The Ocean Course at Hammock Beach Resort is aptly named as it is situated along the coast of the Atlantic Ocean. The course features wetlands, lakes, and six holes directly on the ocean. A Jack Nicklaus design, the Ocean Course is considered “Florida’s Ocean Course” and has been recognized in nearly all major golf publications as a stellar challenging course.
- The No. 7 seed Buckeyes begin with a first-round matchup versus No. 10 Indiana.
- If Ohio State wins the match, they will take on No. 2 seed Minnesota.
- The tournament is a traditional bracket style competition, with consolation matches to determine placing.
