Buckeyes 5th After Day 1 of Valspar Collegiate

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Playing in one of the strongest fields in collegiate golf this season, Ohio State opened the Valspar Collegiate Invitational with rounds of 276 and 285 to sit in a tie for fifth in the 15-team field after 36 holes.
Sophomore Maxwell Moldovan made a total of 10 birdies in his two rounds of 69-69 and sits in a tie for 15th at 4-under par. Moldovan now has nine rounds in the 60s this season.
Adam Wallin also carded his ninth round in the 60s with his morning round of 4-under 67. That round featured five birdies and just one bogey. He followed with a 72 in the afternoon and is one shot behind Moldovan at 3-under par.
JonErik Alford matched Moldovan with 10 birdies on the day as he carded rounds of 69-75 and is tied for 44th at 2-over par. Alford has three sub-70 scores in his last six tournament rounds.
Marco Steyn and Jackson Chandler are each in a tie for 52nd at 4-over par. Steyn rebounded from a 77 in the morning with a 2-under 69 in the afternoon. He made a team-high seven birdies in the second round. Chandler posted rounds of 71 and 75.
As a team, the Buckeyes are 7-under par and right in the mix headed into Tuesday’s final round. Pepperdine ran away from the field in the after and leads the way at 28-under par. But the Buckeyes are just seven shots back of Arizona State which is in second place at 14-under par.
The final rounds will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday morning. The Buckeyes are paired with ACC foes Florida State and Wake Forest and will start on holes 4-7. Golfstat.com will have live scoring throughout the final round.
