Buckeyes in 2nd after Two Rounds of Kepler Intercollegiate

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State carded a pair of under-par rounds and currently sits in second place through 36 holes of the 50th Robert Kepler Intercollegiate, played this weekend at the Columbus Country Club.
The Buckeyes made 24 birdies and an eagle in the morning round of 275. The wind picked up a bit in the afternoon and the team would post a second round 285 and is just seven shots back of Illinois at 16-under par.
Sophomore Maxwell Moldovan opened with a round of 4-under 68 which included seven birdies. He then made four more birdies and an eagle in the second round and would card a 69. Those were his 11th and 12th consecutive rounds at par or better and he is tied for second, just two shots back.
Adam Wallin started his day with bogeys on two of his first three holes. He then eagled the par-5 eighth and closed the morning round with birdies in five of his final six holes to match Moldovan with a 68. He came home with a 73 in the afternoon and sits in a tie for 12th at 3-under par.
Patrick Schmucking carded an opening round 70 and then birdied three of his final four holes to post a second round 72 and is a shot behind Wallin at 2-under par.
Marco Steyn and Jackson Chandler are each in a tie for 47th at 4-over par. Steyn shot a 3-under 69 in the morning that included five birdies. Despite a tough afternoon round, he finished with a nice 30-foot birdie putt at the last to take momentum into Sunday. Chandler was the opposite. He shot 77 in the morning and then birdied three of his final four holes to come home in 71.
Three Buckeyes are playing as individuals this weekend. JonErik Alford shot 73 in the morning and then made seven birdies and just three bogeys in a second round 68. He is tied for 12th at 3-under par. Grant Engle also played better in the afternoon as he rebounded from a 76 with a 3-under 69 and is tied for 26th at 1-over par. Drew Mulcahy matched his two rounds with a pair of 78s.
The Buckeyes will start Sunday’s final round at 9:10 a.m. off the first tee. They are paired with Penn State and Illinois. Follow along all day on Golfstat.com.
