Big Ten Champs! Buckeyes Shut Out Rutgers to Close B1G Slate Undefeated

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 10 Ohio State women’s tennis team downed Rutgers 4-0 Sunday afternoon to close Big Ten play 11-0, capturing the outright Big Ten regular season title.

This is the Buckeyes’ second Big Ten regular season title in a row after sharing the 2021 crown with Michigan. Ohio State also tied for first in 2017 and won the championships outright in 2016, with 11-0 B1G records in both campaigns. The squad shared the Big Ten regular season title in 2000 for its first championship.

Ohio State, 18-4 overall, will be the No. 1 seed in the Big Ten Tournament, which will be held Wednesday through Sunday in Iowa City, Iowa. The Buckeyes have a bye to the quarterfinals and will begin play Friday. Ohio State is the defending tournament champion and has three league postseason titles in program history.

Graduate student Luna Dormet, playing her final regular season match in Columbus, was recognized prior to Sunday’s match.

Quoting Coach Melissa Schaub

“I’m really proud of the team. It was a good regular season and was nice to cap it off with a solid match today. It was a really nice Senior Day for Luna. She has battled through so much and it was great to have her out there in singles and doubles. We are excited to get to Iowa and start the postseason this week.”
