COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State women’s hockey’s Sophie Jaques and Paetyn Levis have been named Western Collegiate Hockey Association players of the week, the conference office announced today. After leading the Buckeyes to a series sweep of St. Cloud State this past weekend, Jaques earns Defender of the Week honors and Levis earns the Forward of the Week nod.
Jaques, who was the 2022 WCHA Defender of the Year, led the Buckeyes with three goals on the weekend. She tallied her first of the season, and the Buckeyes’ first power play goal of the year, in Friday’s 5-2 win over the Huskies. The Toronto, Ont. native added two more goals, both on the power play, in Saturday’s 6-2 win. Overall, she was a member of the Buckeye blue line that helped hold St. Cloud State to just 29 shots on goal all weekend. Jaques has now earned 10 WCHA Defender of the Week awards.
Levis earned her second career player of the week honor after putting up a team-high six points on the weekend. She closed out Ohio State’s game one win with an empty net goal and then followed it up with the Buckeyes’ opening goal in game two. The Rogers, Minn. native also tallied four assists on weekend, recording a helper on Jaques’ first power play goal of the year and adding an apple on each of the last three goals scored in Saturday’s game.
The Buckeyes are back on the road this weekend to meet Bemidji State in a Saturday-Sunday series. Puck drop is set for 4 p.m. ET Saturday and 3 p.m. ET Sunday from the Sanford Center in Bemidji, Minn.
