Jill Wilson joined the Ohio State women’s volleyball program as an associate head coach on Jan. 31, 2020. She was the first hire under new head coach Jen Flynn Oldenburg, who took over the program on Jan. 17, 2020.
Wilson helped the Buckeyes to a 27-6 overall record and a 15-5 Big Ten record in the fall of 2021, earning five ranked wins during the season. Ohio State hosted the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2015 by earning a No. 9 seed and went onto the program’s 18th regional appearance. The Buckeyes spent a program record 14-consecutive weeks in the AVCA’s top-10.
Ohio State had three receive AVCA All-American recognition, including one on the second team, one on the third team and an honorable mention. The Buckeyes had five receive AVCA All-Region recognition, including the Regional Freshman of the Year for the second-consecutive year, as well as five honored with Big Ten postseason honors. For their work in the classroom, 15 student-athletes were named Ohio State Scholar Athletes and 13 were named Academic All-Big Ten.
Wilson is making the transition to Columbus after spending the last three seasons as the head coach of the women’s volleyball team at Virginia Tech.
Wilson joined the Hokies after 10 seasons as an assistant coach at LSU. While in Baton Rouge, she helped lead the Tigers to six NCAA Tournament appearances and the 2009 SEC Championship. Wilson helped produce 15 All-SEC selections, four AVCA first team All-South Region picks and an AVCA First Team All-American and SEC Player of the Year in middle blocker Brittnee Cooper.
Wilson spent time in the ACC as an assistant North Carolina (2002-04) and Wake Forest (2006). She coached two All-Americans, an ACC Player of the Year and helped lead the Tar Heels to the 2002 regular season ACC Championship and an NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearance.
The Richmond, Texas, native was a four-year starter as an outside hitter for LSU from 1997-2000. Wilson was the Tigers’ representative on the women’s at-large SEC Good Works Team in 1999-00 and was named LSU Student-Athlete Volunteer of the Year in 2000.
