Tori DeScenza, an All-American goalie for the Ohio State women’s lacrosse team during a four-year playing career with the Buckeyes, joined the team as volunteer coach entering the 2022 campaign.
DeScenza was a standout for the Buckeyes from 2012-15, earning IWLCA Second Team All-America and ALC Goalie of the Year accolades in 2014 and garnering all-conference honors in 2013 and ’14. She led the Buckeyes in saves all four of her years with the squad and is second all-time with 569 stops. DeScenza is the Buckeyes’ all-time leader in victories with 43, including two 13-win campaigns. A captain for the Buckeyes, she was a four-time Ohio State Scholar-Athlete and earned Academic All-Big Ten accolades.
DeScenza earned her bachelor’s degree in exercise science education in 2016 and her master’s in kinesiology: health and exercise science in 2019. She is now working toward her Ph.D. in kinesiology: health and exercise science, with a minor in non-profit studies, with an expected graduation in May.
She has been an instructor and graduate teaching instructor at Ohio State and was an adjunct instructor at Ohio Dominican. DeScenza has been a member of the Exercise and Behavior Medicine Lab at Ohio State, researching exercise and dietary lifestyle interventions among clinical populations including cancer survivors and knee osteoarthritis patients.
DeScenza spent the 2018 as a part-time assistant coach for the Capital University women’s lacrosse team. She has also coached camps and clinics across Ohio for Major Force Lacrosse, focusing on defense and goalie-specific coaching.
